Basic admin tasks using Web Client – enable vSphere replication

How to enable vSphere replication. One can enable it only in vSphere Web Client.

Requirements:

  1. vSphere 5.1 suite
  2. deployed and configured vSphere 5.1 replication appliance

Steps:

  • Log in to vSphere Web client
  • From right click menu choose – Configure replication

  • Choose target site, one can add remote site as a target or local site – where replicated machine run
  • Specify target datastore for replicated virtual machine files and enable advance settings

  • Define target disk provisioning method
  • Set RPO – Recovery Point Objective – thresholds

  • Verify replication status, from Home screen –> vSphere Replication –> Sites
